• Wehrpass to Gefreiter Johann Unger. He joined the Luftwaffe voluntarily in 1940 and after a long two years in the Waffenmeisterschule Merseburg, he served a few months with the Seefliegerhorstkompanie 103/XI located in Schellingwoude near Amsterdam, Holland. In January 1943 he was admitted to the Panzergrenadier-Regiment 2 of the elite Fallschirm-Panzer-Division Hermann Göring in January 1943. A few months later he was with the Jäger-Regiment, later Panzergrenadier-Regiment 1 of the same division. With this unit, he was transported to Sicily and came into contact with the Allies following Operation Husky. Unger was wounded during this fighting on Sicily on 19th of July 1943. There are no further entries beyond this date, so he was likely captured soon after.
