- Soldbuch to Obergefreiter Friedrich Zahn. The booklet was opened in October 1939 and used throughout the entire war - yet he had only one active unit: the Eisenbahn-Bau-Kompanie 123. As a railway pioneer he saw action in the West and the East. By autumn 1942 his Kompanie was building a large railway bridge over the Tschir, near Stalingrad. From late November, the Kompanie was then deployed as infantry troops to secure the bridgeheads and ultimately to participate in the "Unternehmen Wintergewitter", the failed relief operation for the encircled troops in Stalingrad. During this infantry combat, Zahn was badly wounded in multiple limbs (right leg, left arm) in December 1942. Apart from the earlier Ostmedaille, he was awarded the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz and in Silber for this single wound. He lost one or more of his limbs and spent the remainder of the war in hospitals.
- The Soldbuch is in a very used condition, with loose pages but still a 100% complete with all pages present.
