- Soldbuch to Sanitäts-Gefreiter Walter Direnga. He was one of the first members of the leichte Artillerie-Abteilung 555, raised in Holland in March 1943. From December this unit was renamed into schwere Artillerie-Abteilung 555 and equiped with captured Russian 12,2 cm guns, and remained with the 88. Armeekorps in the area of Den Haag, Holland. On 10th of June 1944, the Abteilung was ordered to Normandy and arrived there on the 17th. Direnga saw action on the Invasion front, with his Abteilung ending up with the 86. Armeekorps and the 1. SS Panzerkorps. During the retreat from the area of Caen, Direnga was wounded and evacuated to a German Reservelazarett in the Heimat, where he arrived on 30th of August 1944.He was awarded not only the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz, but also the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse for his Normandy actions - the latter was already awarded on 22nd of August. During the last weeks of the war he worked as a Sanitäter in a reserve unit.
- An interesting detail is that Direnga lived and worked in Holland during and probably also before the war. His Dutch address is not listed in the Soldbuch as he was single but a few entries confirm he was indeed 'Dutch': he had a Wehrnummer from Eindhoven, received Wehrsold from the "Reichskommissar der besetzten niederländischen Gebiete", his Wehrersatzdienststelle was in Den Haag and he was granted leaves to Utrecht. Undoubtly as a "Kaufmann" (merchant) he had settled in Holland for work.
- Soldbuch in good and complete condition.
