- Soldbuch to the highly decorated Oberfeldwebel Ludwig Schmidt. Joining the Luftwaffe in 1937, he was already an Unteroffizier when this first issue Soldbuch was opened in September 1939. After extensive training he served as a Bordschütze and later Bordwart in transport units, notably the Kampfgeschwader z.b.V. 106 from 1940 to 1943, and the Transportgeschwader 2 from May 1943. As a Junkers Ju 52 crew member, he participated in the occupation of Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium and France in 1940. From April 1941, his Gruppe (K.G.z.b.V.106) flew missions from Italy to Africa. On 20th of May 1941 his Staffel also flew the Fallschirmjäger to Malemes during the Kreta landing. After the collapse on the African front, he fought in Russia, also after his Gruppe was reformed into III/T.G.2.
- Tons of interesting entries, including private watch and private pistols (P.38 and Belgian FN). Schmidt was entitled to an impressive 9 awards: The Fliegerschützenabzeichen, the Frontflugspange in Bronze / Silber / Gold all awarded in 1943, the EKII, the German-Italian commemoration medal for Africa, the Romanian crusade against communism medal with Krimspange, and last the Anhänger "200" for the Frontflugspange. This last award is particularly rare for Transportflieger.
- The Soldbuch is in a good and complete condition. Fantastic portrait photo showing his EKI and Frontflugspange.
