• Wehrpass to Oberfeldwebel Werner Bald. He joined the Luftwaffe in 1937. After extensive training as a Bordfunker, he joined the 12. Staffel of Kampfgeschwader z.b.V. 1 in April 1940 - just in time for the invasion in the West. He flew three missions transporting the Fallschirmj√§ger landing on the "Festung Holland", for which he already received the EKII as early as 12th of May 1940. During the coming weeks of the Western campaign, 34 more missions followed in Belgium and France. Two more missions during the Blitz against England followed.  
  • Based in Foggia, Italy during the Winter of 1940-'41, Werner Bald flew 68 missions in Italy, and then an impressive 175 missions to and over Africa from February to December 1941. These earned him all grades of the Frontflugspange up to "Gold", the Italienische Kriegsverdienstkreuz and the EKI. After rheumatic complaints late 1941 he served with a large number of backward units until April 1945, when he was released.
