• Soldbuch to Unteroffizier Franz Simon. First issue from October 1939. For most of the war, Simon served in the Luftdienstkommando 1/17 in Wiener Neustadt. He joined this unit in April 1940 after his basic Luftwaffe training with Flieger-Ausbildungs-Regiment 24 and a complementary 'Fliegertechnische Lehrgang'. He was an airplane mechanic. In February 1944, he was moved from his Austrian post to a front unit, the Fliegerzielgeschwader 3. In September of that year, he transferred to the Fliegerzielstaffel 12. These "Fliegerziel" units were responsible for towing targets in shooting practice areas for airplanes and Flak guns.
  • In February 1945, Simon was transferred from the Luftwaffe to the Heer, as there was an urgent need for infantrymen to protect the Heimat. He ended up in the Grenadier-Ersatz-und-Ausbildungs-Bataillon II/486 for his infantry training. This Bataillon was mobilized during the 'Leuthen-Bewegung' of 27. March 1945, but an active Heer front unit was not inscribed in the Soldbuch. On April 11th, 1945, he was with the Marsch-Kompanie of the Bataillon, indicating he was sent to the front in the final weeks of the war.
  • The Soldbuch is a 100% complete, with no denazifications, a portrait photo and an impressive amount of equipment pages. It is closed with some "Merkblätter" including frostbite and STD's.
