Soldbuch and Wehrpass grouping to Hauptfeldwebel Wilhelm Orth. Having lost both his parents before the age of 20, this young winemaker from the Pfalz area volunteered for the Luftwaffe in 1937. After completing his RAD service, he was trained as a Luftnachrichten soldier and signed for 12 years of service. Shortly after the war broke out, Orth was promoted to Unteroffizier. He participated in the Western campaign with Luftgau-Nachrichten-Regiment 13 in France. An interesting battle entry on page 32 of the Wehrpass proves his unit protected the Führerhauptquartier directly in the second part of June 1940. During the following years, Orth would mainly serve with the Luftnachrichten-Regimente 201, 211, 205, 215 and 217. These were all deployed in the West and back in the Heimat, protecting the Reich agains the Allied night fighters. Apart from the typical Luftnachrichten training, Orth received specialist education as Zugführer on the impressive Freya radar installations ("Freya-Gerätemann", "Gerätezugführer" on page 21 of the Wehrpass). In 1944, he was promoted to Hauptfeldwebel, and acted as "Der Spiess" in his Kompanie. He survived the war and was awarded the Czech annexation medal.
