Soldbuch to Obergefreiter Heinrich Scherhofer. First issue from February 1941. This Vienna born Austrian laborer was trained as Luftnachrichten soldier in Brünn (Brno), and then served for over three years with Luftnachrichten-Regiment 14. With this unit, he saw a lot of action on the southern sector of the Eastern Front: they were on the Crimea in 1941-'42, then also in the Maikop - Krasnodar area of southern Russia. In 1944, the regiment retreated through Romania; by this time Scherhofer had been awarded the Ostmedaille, the Krimschild, the Kreuzzug gegen Kommunismus medal with the uncommon "Dnjestr" clasp, and last the Erdkampfabzeichen - not a sinecure for a Luftwaffe radio soldier!

Mid September 1944, Scherhofer made a career switch and transferred to the Fallschirmjäger. By early October 1944, he was with the 1. Kompanie of Fallschirmjäger-Artillerie-Regiment 6 in Holland; his I. Abteilung was quickly reformed into I./ Fallschirm-Artillerie-Regiment 7 and subordinated to the 7. Fallschirmjäger-Division. He then saw action with his regiment in the Dutch-German border area between Venlo and Venray at the end of 1944. Early January 1945, he moved with his unit to the French-German border area of Haguenau, where heavy losses were suffered until he was retreated again to the Venlo area at the end of the month. He then fought in the Reichswald sector near Goch in February 1945, until retreating over the Rhein in the Wesel area around 9th of March 1945. Here, on the Rhine banks, he was wounded by shrapnel in his left leg a few days later and evacuated to hospital, where he would end the war. Scherhofer was still in treatment by the end of the year and was released from captivity in 1946.

The Soldbuch is in a used but good and 100% complete condition with all pages fixed, and including a great portrait photo showing his Erdkampfabzeichen in wear. His FJ units are backed up with FJ equipment and the security signatures correctly stamped by Feldpostnummer 49725 on page 15. The Soldbuch comes with his POW discharge document, an Austrian Raucherkarte and the matching aluminium dogtag.
