Born in Essen, 1920, Steeg followed Luftwaffe pilot training in the late 1930's, and then joined the Sturzkampfgeschwader 1 as Stuka pilot. On 19th of April 1941, he went missing during a nighttime attack on the port of Valletta, the capital of the island Malta. He was shot down by British anti aircraft fire. His body and his Ju 87 B-1 marked "J9+ZL" (Werknr. 5327) of the 9./St.G.1 were never retrieved. He was posthumously promoted from Oberfähnrich to Leutnant.

  • Thank you card for condolences sent to the parents, May 1942.
