• Croatian Zvonimir citation - KIA Slovenia
  • Award document for the Croatian "Eiserne Zvonimir Medaille am Kriegsbande" award to Obergefreiter Ludwig Melzner, who served with the staff of the Deutscher Eisenbahn-Sicherungs-Stab Kroatien.
  • He earned the award for his long service as a driver protecting the railway instructions from the Yugoslavian partisans.
  • A Ludwig Melzner, in fact the only Ludwig Melzner to be killed in the war, is listed by the Volksbund as KIA on 6th of February 1944 in Hasenthal, now part of Kozje, Slovenia. His rank is given as Gendarmerie-Oberwachtmeister, and he is likely buried among the unknown in the Celje (Slovenia) cemetery. There is a 90% chance that this is indeed the same Ludwig Melzner, given the location of his death.
  • Excellent condition, not folded, not punched, 21x17 cm.
