Soldbuch to Gefreiter Otto Büchner. First issue from December 1943. The already 35 year old was trained as a Panzerjäger, and then joined the schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 519 in the last months of 1944. The last dated entry with his reserve unit was on September 1st, 1944: undoubtly he was part of the major refreshing operation of the Abteilung after its destruction on the Eastern Front. The schw.Pz.Jg.Abt.519 is a renowned anti-tank unit, as it fought not only with StuG, but also with the impressive Jagdpanther on the Western Front. It was commanded by Knight's Cross winner Wolf-Horst Hoppe and saw action attached to the 116. Panzer-Division (Kampfgruppe Bayer) in the Hürtgenwald fighting, November 1944. It was then sent to the Ardennes where it followed the footsteps of the 246. Volksgrenadier-Division. Fighting in the Bütgenbach area east of Malmedy and later more south towards Sankt-Vith, Otto Büchner received a promotion by the Abteilung on 5th of February 1945, proving his participation in the Ardennes fighting.
The Abteilung gradually lost all of its Jagdpanther retreating into the Reich, Otto Büchner managed to avoid capture or worse and was released from service (and captivity?) on 8th of June 1945, returning to his wife Anna.
The Soldbuch is in excellent and complete condition, including the portrait photo.
