Soldbuch grouping to Oberschütze Gerd Werninger. First issue from May 1944. As a young boy, Werninger was first active as a Flakhelfer in 1943-'44, with the schwere Flak-Abteilung 301 in Bochum. He then fulfilled his RAD service from February to April 1944. Shortly before his 18th birthday mid 1944, he was then forwarded to the Luftwaffe. After basic training with Flieger-Regiment 92 in occupied France (Toul, Nancy), Werniger had to retreat from the nearing Allies in France late 1944 and joined Festungs-PaK-Abteilung 101 in January 1945. He was sent to his final unit, Festungs-Pak-Kompanie 2/XVII, shortly after. With this obscure but typical late-war anti-tank unit, Werninger entered fighting on the Western Front and was captured by the Americans on 22nd of March 1945.
Werninger was only released as a POW in October 1948. He went on to live a full life, obtained a doctoral degree in political sciences, had two sons and a daughter, and only passed away very recently in October 1922, aged 96. The grouping consists of:
