Wehrpass and award document grouping to Unteroffizier Hermann Ihrke. Volunteering for the Wehrmacht in 1939, this Berlin based mechanic was trained as a motorized Flak soldier in the Luftwaffe. His training includes the 2 cm "Flak-Vierling" four-barrel anti aircraft gun. His two main units were leichte Flak-Abteilung 411 in 1941, and then leichte Flak-Abteilung 861 in 1941-'43. With the latter, Ihrke participated in the battle of Stalingrad, nicely described "Angriffsschlacht auf Stalingrad" and "im Raum zwischen Wolga und Don" on pages 32-33 of the Wehrpass.

The fantastic Wehrpass page 47 lists four detailed battle days counting towards the Erdkampfabzeichen, and one "Abschuss" of a Russian aircraft counting for the Flakkampfabzeichen. The Erdkampf days especially give a good insight in his last weeks before sustaining a critical wound on 10th of January 1943, on the southern flank of the Stalingrad front. The list includes Koschara, a village on the Wolga river, among other places while his Abteilung was attached to Flak.Rgt.7 of the 15. Flak-Division. For his extensive fighting on the Eastern Front, Hermann Ihrke was awarded the EKII, the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz, the Kampfabzeichen der Flakartillerie, the Ostmedaille, the Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber and the Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe.

A few months after this serious wound, this Wehrpass was issued as a "Zweitschrift", which was standard procedure for Stalingrad veterans as most of the first issue Wehrpasses were lost there. Another year after, Ihrke was released from the Wehrmacht on medical conditions - likely one of his limbs was amputated. The Wehrpass is in excellent and complete condition and comes with the following award documents:

  • Eiserne Kreuz 2. Klasse, preliminary citation from November 1941.
  • Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz, by Reservelazarett 112 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, November 1941.
  • Ostmedaille, August 1942, hand signed by DKiG winning Oberst Dr. Hermann Stolte as commander of Flak.Rgt.10.
  • Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber, February 1943, in Reservelazarett XI in Wien.
  • Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe, April 1943, hand signed by Oberst Edmund Prigge, commander of Flak.Rgt.7.
