Soldbuch to Maschinengefreiter Ernst Dreyer. First issue from June 1941, opened by an officer of the Baubelehrung U-Boote Vegesack. This date fits right in the middle of the launching (28th of April) and the commissioning (5th of July) of the U-Boot U-133, which had indeed been finished in the "Vegesacker Werft" in Bremen.
Under Kapitänleutnant Hermann Hesse, the U-133 set off from Saint-Nazaire for its first front patrol in October 1941 with the 7. U-Flottille. It moved to Messina (Italy) early January 1942 and sunk the British destroyer HMS Gurkha on its second patrol on 17th of January 1942, escaping with minor damage from depth charges of the British destroyer HMS Maori that same day. Shortly after returning to port in Salamis, Greece, Ernst Dreyer was awarded the U-Boot-Kriegsabzeichen, correctly entered with Fp.Nr. 43319 of U-133 on page 4 of the Soldbuch.
On 14th of March 1942, Dreyer joined the crew of U-133 under its new commander Oblt. z. See Eberhard Mohr for its third patrol, now as part of the 23. U-Flottille based in Salamis. On the day of its departure, it was sunk by a sea mine near the Greek island Aegina. The entire crew was killed. The wreck of U-133 was found by Greek divers in the 1980's.
The Soldbuch is in a very good and complete condition. A 1945 dated entry on page 3 was censored. A portrait photo was never inserted and the number of entries is limited, both due to his early death.
