Soldbuch grouping to Oberleutnant Günther Dietrich, a young officer of the Marineflak who ended up in Festung Lorient, one of the Atlantikwall fortresses in France, 1944-'45. Dietrich already made it to officer shortly after his 22nd birthday in July 1942. He first served with Marine-Flak-Abteilung 211 (Eckernförde) and then Marine-Flak-Abteilung 221 (Kiel-Dehnhöft). By early 1944, he was with Marine-Flak-Abteilung 817 protecting the port and important U-Boot base of Lorient, in the Bretagne area in France. Following D-Day and the breakthrough from Normandy, this harbour city was completely surrounded by the Allies and declared an Atlantikwall Festung. In this time frame, Dietrich earned both the Kriegsabzeichen für die Marineartillerie, and the KVKII mit Schwertern. The fortress held out until the end of the war; Dietrich was only captured in May 1945 and survived the war.
The grouping consists of:
- Soldbuch, first issue from September 1941, complete including the portrait photo. Interesting entries include his "Festungs-Stamm-Nummer" on page 1 and a Frontzulage in April 1945 both related to Festung Lorient, the rare battle entry for "Verteidigung Atlantikfestung Lorient ab 5.8.44" on page 35, the two award entries also connected to the Festung, a pistol and a private watch, and more.
- Führerschein from March 1939.
- Confirmation from Mar.Flak.Abt.817 that he gifted his overcoat for use by soldiers on the front lines, due to shortage of supplies in the Festung Lorient, November 1944.
- Six private photos in which Dietrich can clearly be recognised.
- Wedding certificate from 1951, plus extensive wartime and prewar document grouping to his (future) wife Ingeborg Horscht, daugther of a teacher in Düsseldorf. Included are the Third Reich Ahnenpass to her father, Ahnentafel of the Nationalsozialistische Lehrerbund, prewar Familienstammbuch, declaration of Aryan descent, many school papers and more... only a small part is shown here.
