On 30th of May 1943, he was wounded in the forced landing of Oblt. Heribert Kleinschmidt of 6./ Nachtjagdgeschwader 1 in Bf 110 G-4 "G9+BP" (Werknr. 5344) at the airfield of Sint-Truiden (St. Trond), Belgium.
On 2nd of December 1943, he was killed while still flying with Kleinschmidt but now as Unteroffizier with 10./NJG5, in the crash of Bf 110 G-4 (Werknr. 5328) at the "Grosser Feldberg" in the Taunus mountain area in Germany.
