Soldbuch to Unteroffizier Wolfgang Beurlen, a Dolmetscher serving as English translator in the Luftwaffe. First issue from May 1940. Interestingly, Beurlen was born in South Africa, and later worked as an editor in the international port city of Hamburg. This combination explains his good knowledge of languages.  

For the first three years, Beurlen mainly served with Flak-Abteilung 615, protecting the port of Bremen. In February 1943, he was sent to the "Sprachmittler-Abteilung der Luftwaffe" in Bonn-Hangelar (first detached to Siegburg). His Dolmetscher units continue into 1944, also including the Dolmetscher-Ausbildungs-und-Ersatz-Abteilung der Luftwaffe in Olmütz (Olomouc). Beurlen ended the war with 6./ Luftnachrichten-Abteilung 357, a Funkhorch-Kompanie newly formed in Heiligenstadt. With this mobile intercept unit, he must have overheard and translated Allied radio contact. February 1945, he was sent to Baden-Baden, close to the front on the French border, where he later must have been captured by the Western Allies.  

The Soldbuch is in very good and complete condition, with many entries and extra pages including a few "Merkblätter". Notice on the awards page 22 the rare entry for a "Wehrmachtdolmetscher-Armbinde" (translator armband)!
