Wehrpass to Gefreiter Josef Eberle. First issue from April 1940. Aged 37 already when he joined the Wehrmacht, Eberle first served with Landesschützen units in 1941-'42, mostly with Landesschützen-Bataillon 873 in Hallein, Austria. April 1942, however, he was moved to a much more interesting station: the V1 and V2 testing base in Karlshagen-Peenemünde, where he resided in the barracks of the "Versuchskommando Nord", first as part of the 6. Kompanie, later of the 7. Kompanie. These barracks are located in Karlshagen and the remains can still be seen today.

Undoubtly, Eberle's civilian profession was the direct cause for his transfer: he was an experienced "Spengler" or sheet metal worker; thin pieces of metal were of course vital in the development of the experimental weapons. Eberle was promoted to Gefreiter in Karlshagen in December 1943 and then released late January 1944. By then, the V2 was already in production. The discharge document mentions he is released to "Karlshagen/Pommern HAP.11". This abbreviation is short for Heimat-Artillerie-Park 11; a camouflage name for the rocket facility - very likely he kept on working here as a civilian. Also notice the "Karlshagen-Lager" and Versuchskompanie stamps on the reverse of this document.

The Wehrpass is in excellent and complete condition. It comes with forementioned Entlassungsschein, and his first type Arbeitsbuch, showing he only returned to his former work place in October 1946, undoubtly due to captivity.
