- Soldbuch to Gefreiter Karl Claus. He joined the Wehrmacht in May 1943 and after some reserve Landesschützen units, Claus ended up with Kreiskommandatur 785 occupying the city of Clermont-Ferrand in France. In 1944, he joined Sicherungs-Regiment 1000, an occupation unit for central France. As the partisan actions of the French resistance multiplied in the weeks before the Allied invasion, Sich.Rgt.1000 was used to create the notorious "Brigade Jesser", a mobile unit tasked with fast and agressive counterattacks and clearance operations against the French partisans. The brigade saw a lot of action against the French resistance, also participating in numerous war crimes. During their retreat to the north after the Allied invasions in the Marseille area mid August 1944, Claus was wounded by a bullet, and evacuated to a hospital in Strassbourg, where he arrived on the 23rd. He probably remained in hospital until the end of the war.
