- Soldbuch to Gefreiter Heinrich Bickel. First issue from August 1944. After basic infantry training, Bickel joined Grenadier-Regiment 104 of the 47. Volksgrenadier-Division mid October 1944. He fought in the third battle for Aachen and in the Düren bridgehead in the Hürtgenwald fighting, where the 47.VGD overtook the positions of the 3. Fallschirmjäger-Division in December 1944. Later that winter, it operated on the Maginot line and during Unternehmen Nordwind, the last major German counteroffensive in the West. It then retreated to the Oberrhine and the last elements of the division surrendered in Austria.
- Heinrich Bickel was equiped with an StG 44 machine gun while with Gren.Rgt.104, as can be seen from the weapon entry on page 8a. It is very likely he was taken POW in the Aachen or Hürtgenwald battles already, as there are no further entries beyond late October 1944.
- The Soldbuch has pages 19-20 missing. A portrait photo may have been removed on the inside cover, but there are no traces of stamps, signature or staples.
