- Soldbuch to Oberfeldwebel Josef Rauth. Zweitschrift issue dated October 1943, when he returned to his (reserve) unit after a wound sustained in the East. Rauth was a professional Polizei NCO who must have joined the police around 1935. During the first years of the war, he served with Feldgendarmerie-Abteilung 591. This Abteilung supported the operations of the 2. Panzerarmee in France and on the Eastern Front. By late 1943, he had been awarded the Medaille zur Erinnerung a.d. 13. März 1938, the Polizei-Dienstauszeichnung III. Stufe for 8 years of police service, the Ostmedaille, the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz and the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse.
- Rauth recovered with the Feldgendarmerie-Ausbildungs-Abteilung 1 in Litzmannstadt, location of the well known ghetto in Lodz, Poland. He then joined a "Feldgendarmerie-Trupp (tmot.) 1020" and ended up in the "Festung Dünkirchen" in Autumn 1944. He saw action in this Atlantikwall fortress in September 1944, as he was awarded Frontzulage for that month. Rauth was still in the Festung in March 1945 and must have surrendered with the remainder of the fortress at the end of the war.
