- Soldbuch to SS-Kanonier Reinhold Tobies, who joined the Luftwaffe in September 1943. On 15th of August 1944, he was transferred from his Flieger-Ersatz-Abteilung to the SS, in a high profile unit: the SS-Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung "Das Reich", fighting in Normandy. The 2. SS-Panzer-Division Das Reich was by then retreating from Mortain, ending up in the Falaise pocket. Tobies was wounded quickly after his arrival: he was admitted to hospital one week later, on 22nd of August 1944 with a shot through his left leg.
- Released from hospital mid November 1944 with a Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz, he was sent to the SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 3 "Deutschland". He arrived just in time for the offensive from their positions on the Westwall into the Ardennes. The Deutschland regiment fought near Manhay (Belgium) late December 1944, and retreated through the Houffalize area to the northern part of Luxemburg (Holler, Wilwerdingen) before they were moved to Hungary mid January 1945. They ended up fighting in the battle for Vienna early April 1945, and Tobies was hospitalised with a second wound in Austria on 13th of April 1945. He stayed in hospitals under Allied control until late January 1946.
- The Soldbuch has the portrait photo and pages 11-14 missing. Some repairs with modern tape and small lower part of page 5-6 missing as well. It comes with three extra documents in equally battered condition: his RAD relase document, his last Kriegsurlaubschein with the Luftwaffe from April 1944, and an Ausbildungs-Laufkarte from the NS-Fliegerkorps which has his cloth Segelflugabzeichen attached. Regardless of this condition, any Soldbuch to SS personnel (especially armored!) fighting in Normandy and the Ardennes is extremely rare!
