- Soldbuch to Pionier Wilhelm Strick. First issue from October 1943, when the 18 year old Köln born mechanic entered pioneer training with Pionier-Ersatz-Bataillon 253. Mid 1944, he was sent to the Italian front with Pionier-Bataillon 171, part of the 71. Infanterie-Division. The exact date must have been between a last leave to his bombed house in Köln mid May 1944, and the issue of tropical gear by Pi.Btl.171 early August 1944. Likely he arrived mid June 1944, while the 71.ID was retreating from Cassino with severe losses in the Abruzzo area. In August 1944 the division held the line on the Gothic line at the Adriatic coast south of Rimini, in the area of Pergola and Urbino. By October 1944 it had arrived in northeast Italy, in the Trieste area. At the beginning of December 1944, Strick was badly wounded in an accident. He ended the war in hospital.
