- Wehrpass to Obergefreiter Hermann Apfelthaler from Vienna, Austria. He served with different (heavy) anti-aircraft units from 1940 until the end of the war. He was first with Reserve-Flak-Abteilung 366 in Dorsten, then with reserve Flak units in Wolfenbüttel. From August 1942, he was with schwere Flak-Abteilung 264, which was moved to Sicily in February 1943. His 3. Batterie stayed on the Italian front - the other 2 Batteries were transported to Africa and destroyed there little later. Some interesting battle entries relate to the protection of the street of Messina and the Allied landing there, and the defense against another landing in Calabria. The Abteilung then retreated through the Italian mainland to northern Italy where it arrived in Verona in March 1944, staying in that area until the final stage of the war. For his actions on the Italian front, Apfelthaler received the KVKII in April 1944 and the Flak-Kampfabzeichen in December 1944.
