- Wehrpass to Oberstabsarzt Dr. Werner Benne. Prewar (undated on page 1) first issue. Benne was a married doctor, father of five, who volunteered for the Wehrmacht in 1933. Through several medical Luftwaffe postings, he was admitted to the Fallschirmschule in Wittstock in June 1940. After completing jump training, he was sent to the Fallschirmpanzerjäger-Abteilung 7 where he served as the Stabsarzt. He jumped over Malemes airport in Crete and was wounded on the third day, by shrapnel in the head, due to which he also suffered from a major concussion. He recovered from his wound but did not return to the Fallschirmjäger. Benne later served as an Oberstabsarzt with the Nachtjagddivsion Jafü Mitte, the 3. Jagddivision, and last with I./ Flak-Regiment 36. His Abteliung was destroyed in Orscha in June 1944, and Benne himself went missing. His body was never found.
- Dr. Benne earned the Kretaband, the EKII and the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz for Kreta. These were added to a number of earlier awards: the Dienstauszeichnung IV. Klasse, the Sudeten-Erinnerungsmedaille, the Flugzeugführerabzeichen (!), the Fallschirmschützenabzeichen and the DRL Sportabzeichen, adding to a total of eight.
- An intriguing side story to this Wehrpass developed when Dr. Benne's sick children were treated by a female colleague in the winter of 1943-'44. Conversating with Benne's wife, the well known doctor Dr. Margarete Blank expressed serious doubt on the final victory of Germany over the Soviets. During what would later turn out to be his last leave home, Benne decided to denounce her to the Gestapo. Blank was arrested, Frau Benne testified against her and she was trialed by the Volksgericht in Dresden. Condemned to death, she was executed by guillotine in the Dresden prison on 8th of February, 1945. More details can be read on Margarete Blank's Wikipedia page and in several books. She is furthermore remembered in a Gedenkstätte and through several street names. Werner Benne did not live through the war to account for his deeds. His wife did - she was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
- The Wehrpass is in a very good and complete condition. It has a great portrait photo with the pilot's badge in wear. The last images on this page show a portrait photo of Dr. Benne from the DRK Vermisstenbildlisten and a portrait photo of his victim, Dr. Margarete Blank (Leipzig city archives).
