- Soldbuch to Obergefreiter Herbert Walenta. First issue from August 1941. This miner born in the Sudetenland and living in Halle (Saale) was called up with Marineflak-Abteilung 231 located in Rendsburg near Kiel. He later served with a rather obscure unit, the Entmagnetisierungsgruppe in Kiel harbour. This unit inspected and demagnetized the magnetical fields of the ships, to protect them against magnetic sea mines.
- According to an extra research note with the Soldbuch, Walenta was killed in action on 23rd of April 1945 in Burlage, now part of Rhauderfehn, east of Papenburg. The date matches the date of the liberation of that area by Allied troops. He is not listed on the Volksbund grave database. Further research is needed. Do notice several entries suggest he was moved to a front line troop in April 1945. The equipment entry on page 11 shows the issue of an Italian rifle only 5 days before his death.
- The Soldbuch is a 100% complete and in very good condition.
