- Soldbuch to Oberleutnant Horst Hörnlein. First issue from December 1941. Hörnlein first served with Infanterie-Regiment 88, quickly reformed into Grenadier-Regiment 88, part of the 15. Infanterie-Division. He was then allowed to officer school and made it to Leutnant in April 1943. Shortly after his return to his old unit at the front, he was wounded by shrapnel in the stomach mid 1943 during the fighting of the 15.ID on the Donez river. Hörnlein was awarded the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz for this wound.
- After a long time in hospital and reserve units, Hörnlein joined the newly erected Grenadier-Regiment 1209 of the 159. Infanterie-Division late 1944. The 159.ID would soon enter combat against the Americans in the Alsace, but Hörnlein found himself in hospital again in Bad Harzburg after an accident early December 1944. He was then transferred to a hospital in his home city Rudolstadt. A last promotion entry to Oberleutnant was made in March 1945 by the Kampfkommandant of Rudolstadt, Oberst Anders.
- The Soldbuch has the pages loose, but is still a 100% complete. Interesting entries include an MP40 machine pistol, a Sauer pistol with 7.65 mm ammunition, and a quite impressive list of promotions going from Schütze to Oberleutnant in only about 3 years. The very nice portrait photo has been taken from another ID and has not been stamped, but it is a 100% original, and has his hand written signature on the backside (impossible to show on scan). The Soldbuch comes with a postcard sized portrait photo of Hörnlein.
