- Legacy of 29 private photos to Unteroffizier Karl Hanel, a Panzer soldier who was very badly wounded by shrapnel in the face in 1941. Three horryfing but unique photos from hospital show the man unconscious with a head wound tearing his chin and left cheek open, then a portrait soon after surgery and another one after about a year of healing.
- The remaining photos include many from his wedding in 1943 - showing he made a full recovery but of course wore the scars for the rest of his life. Also included is a postcard sized portrait from before his wound.
- Hanel was at least awarded the Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber, the EKII, EKI and Panzerkampfabzeichen.
