- Wehrpass to Gefreiter Erich Mayer. First issue from June 1938. Mayer was called up by the Wehrmacht in April 1940 and served with the 4. (MG) Kompanie of Infanterie-Regiment 75 from October 1940. Originally part of the 5. Infanterie-Division, this regiment was reformed into Jäger-Regiment 75 and the division renamed into 5. leichte Infanterie-Division in November 1941. Another year later, the division would be renamed into the 5. Jäger-Division.
- With this unit, Mayer saw action on the northern sector of the Eastern Front, mostly in the Demjansk / Staraja Russa sector. He served as Waffenmeistergehilfe, repairing the weapons in his section. Erich Mayer was killed in action on 27th of February 1942 by Russian artillery when moving to his unit's doctor just southwest of Staraja Russa after sustaining a minor shrapnell wound earlier that day.
- The Wehrpass is in excellent and complete condition. It comes with a typed Abschrift of the KIA letter sent by his Kompaniechef. Notice the level of detail and appreciation supplied by this officer - unlike many of the other "standard" KIA letters we actually learn a lot from this letter about Mayer's last day and burial.
