• Soldbuch to Gefreiter Peter Wermes. First issue from December 1941. After training as a Panzergrenadier, Wermes joined Grenadier-Regiment 669 of the 371. Infanterie-Division, while it was reformed in the Bretagne (France) following its complete destruction in Stalingrad. During the formation, Wermes' I./G.R.669 was absorbed by the new Grenadier-Regiment 755. Part of the 334. Infanterie-Division, this unit was formed for deployment in Africa. Most likely Wermes never departed for Africa, but rejoined his old division soon, as he ended up with Werkstatt-Kompanie 371, the divisional repair shop of the 371.ID. With this unit, he was sent to Croatia later 1943, eventually fighting in the Ukraine in 1944. He was awarded the Kroatische Erinnerungs-Medaille, the Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber and the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz, following a wound sustained in March 1944 while fighting in the Hube-Kessel. Wermes likely didn't see active fighting again and was taken POW by the Russians.
  • The Soldbuch is in a battered condition; the portrait photo has been removed, some pages are loose, though it is still has all the pages. Interesting equipment entries include a snow shirt and two pistols.
