• Soldbuch to Unteroffizier Erich Kallinich. First issue from September 1939. Called up during the general mobilisation of 1939, Kallinich was deployed with a number of Flak units, most notably the leichte Flak-Abteilung 993 from May 1941 to May 1944. This unit was stationed on the Atlantikwall in Belgium, in the area of Diksmuide and Koksijde. Here, he earned the Flakkampfabzeichen and the T√§tigkeitzabzeichen der Flakartillerie. Transferred to leichte Flak-Abteilung 764 in May 1944, he was moved further north on the Atlantikwall, to Holland. Kallinich would be engaged following Operation Market Garden, and ended up in the western sector counterattacking the American paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division in the Betuwe area. It appears his Flak unit was added to the 363rd Volksgrenadier-Division, as Kallinich was awarded the EK2 by that unit on 11th of October 1944. This dates his EK2 to the fighting in and near Opheusden, early October 1944, featured in the "Band of Brothers" book and series!
