- Wehrpass to Gefreiter Herbert Lottes. First issue from May 1936. This hairdresser from Crimmitschau was called up by the Wehrmacht in November 1938, and still in active service with Infanterie-Regiment 31 when the war broke out. As part of the 24.ID, he saw action with his regiment on the Warta, on the Bzura, near Lowicz and Warsaw in the Polish campaign. At the start of the French campaign, The I.R.31 marched through Luxemburg and the Belgian Ardennes to cross the Meuse river near Sedan, France. It was then involved in intense fighting on the "Mont Dieu" in the area of Stonne. On the first day of this fighting, 17th of May 1940, Gefreiter Lottes was killed by a bullet in the head.
