- Soldbuch to Gefreiter Walter Urbauer. This mechanic from Vienna was called up for military service in December 1942. His first front line unit was Grenadier-Regiment 36, part of the 9. Infanterie-Division fighting on the southern sector of the Eastern Front. Next he was with Grenadier-Regiment 89 of the 12. Infanterie-Division. During the fighting in Witebsk, Urbauer was wounded by shrapnel in the head. He lost at least one eye and was awarded the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz, the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse and later the Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber for this single wound.
- The very sobering portrait photo shows Urbauer during his hospital time in 1944, with the damage to his eyes clearly visible. He is already wearing his EK2 ribbon awarded in May 1944.
