- Soldbuch to Gefreiter Helmuth Lemke. He got his Soldbuch opened in February 1941 and served in various artillery units. With (III.) Artillerie-Regiment 207 of the 285. Sicherungs-Division, he earned the EK2 and the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz on the Northern sector of the Eastern Front. After some stays in hospital, he joined the Artillerie-Regiment 340 of the new 340. Volksgrenadier-Division in the autumn of 1944. Lemke would participate in the heart of the Battle of the Bulge with this unit: the 340.VGD was one of the divisions used in the attempts to break the final resistance of the Americans in Bastogne. On 6th of January 1945, the division launched an attack aside the 12. SS Division Hitlerjugend on the Bois Jacques, held by the 101st US Airborne Division - if you watched the 'Band of Brothers' series, you will know Lemke and his artillery comrades gave hell to the American paratroopers those days.
- Lemke received a field promotion on Christmas Eve 1944 near Bastogne and made it out of the Ardennes alive. He was finally captured with most of his division in the Ruhrkessel, and due to some interesting POW entries we know the exact date and location: 8th of March 1945 in Boos, about 50 km east of the Belgian border.
- The Soldbuch shows lots of use, pages are loose but it is still a 100% complete.
