- Soldbuch to Gefreiter Paul Drews. This shoe maker joined the Wehrmacht in February 1943. After basic training as a Grenadier he ended up with the Gebirgsjäger, in Aufklärungs-Abteilung 67 of the 2. Gebirgs-Division. He fought on the Northern Front in Lappland and retreated with his unit to the Norwegian border in 1944. During this time, he was issued some highly interesting equipment: the shortened Gewehr 33/40 in June and again in September 1944, and especially the "Z.F.41" Zielfernrohr (sniper scope) also in September 1944. This proves he was actively deployed as a sniper in his unit.
- The 2. Gebirgs-Division was retreated from Norway to resupply in December 1944 and then participated in the fighting on the Western Front (Saarpfalz) early 1945. As the last dated entry is for January 8, 1945 and as there is a French POW entry on page 3, we can safely assume Paul Drews was captured during these fights.
- The Soldbuch has the portrait photo removed and the cover is loose, but it's still complete with all pages.
